History Imagined
Please join us to investigate the past imagined in two works of fiction.
Author Christine Duffy Zerillo discusses women and their changing roles during King Philip’s War, an armed conflict in 1675–1678 between Indigenous Americans and New England colonists.
Based on Duffy’s historical novel Still Here, this discussion centers on Mary Rowlandson’s narrative journal chronicling her captivity by Native Americans. Duffy’s book imagines Rowlandson’s relationship with her captor, the Pocasset Wampanoag sachem Weetamoo.
