Friends of the Thayer Memorial Library is a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to supporting and enhancing Library services for Lancaster residents. Established in the early 1980s, Friends supports the Library through fundraising, volunteer efforts, and community engagement. Known for its annual book sale, programs, and special events, the organization helps expand resources and opportunities for Lancaster residents.
Through advocacy, volunteerism, and fundraising, the Friends:
- Strengthen connections between the Library and the community through programs and community events.
- Provide financial support for Library services and activities not covered by the municipal budget for the Library.
- Enhance access to digital resources by helping fund eBoks, audiobooks, and streaming media collections.
- Sponsor the museum pass program, offering discounted admission to attractions throughout Massachusetts

The Friends meet monthly at 12:00 on the first Wednesday of the month.
Book Sales
Book sales are held at various times throughout the year. Please check the Library calendar for dates and times. Browse the sales cart next to the circulation desk for a frequently refreshed selection of books and CDs available for purchase.
Donating Books
We greatly appreciate your donations!
We accept donations of new and gently used books, CDs, video games, DVDs and puzzles.To make the best use of our limited space and volunteer resources, we are unable to accept textbooks, magazines, cassette tapes, or VHS tapes. Please donate only items in good condition, as we cannot accept materials that are torn, heavily marked, moldy or musty-smelling.
