“Moving” Poetry and Local History
Folks:
Suppose you didn’t get a chance to participate in the last month’s inaugural Thayer Memorial Motion Picture Discussion Club.
Well, here’s your chance:
Poetry stars veteran actress Yoon Jeong-hee as Mija, a 66-year-old widow grappling with a recent diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and the trials of living with her troubled grandson, Jongwook. Two very different events dramatically alter the course of her life: enrollment in a poetry class at a local community center and Jongwook’s participation in the assault of a 16-year-old girl.
Winner of the Best Screenplay award at the Cannes film festival, Poetry is a simultaneously heartbreaking and inspiring meditation on finding beauty in even the bleakest of circumstances.
Please Note: This film may contain scenes that some viewers find unsettling and parents offensive. Those under 18 should consult with their parents before registering for the Thayer Memorial Library Motion Picture Club Discussion. Please call Joe Mulé, Library Director, with any questions.
This film is available on Kanopy and through the CW MARS catalog.
Registration is limited to 14 participants.
